Abstract

Computing is an evolutionary process. As part of this evolution, the computing requirements driven by applications have always outpaced the available technology. The system designers have been always seeking for faster and more efficient systems of computing. During the past decade, many different computer systems supporting high performance computing have emerged. Their taxonomy is based on how their processors, memory and interconnect are laid out. Today’s applications require high computational power as well as high communication performance. The high performance computing provides an approach to parallel processing that yields super computer level performance solving incredibly large and complex problems. This trend makes it very promising to build high performance computing environment with a cost effective approach.
